'Backscenes' on Monday afternoon's hockey interschools hockey sports day:  A family affair.
A grade 12 History class effort
Photos Rori-Madison CorneliusI sent my matric class 'backscenes' to interview learner and spectators alike on Monday afternoon. Luckily for me I have very talented and spontaneous learners who people easily warm up to and who has the necessary skills to capture the scenes beautifully on camera.
I will share some of the photos with you and you will see that it tells a story of community, family and caring. Yes, we were divided into two camps, but our primary school learners arrived at the seen ready to participate and have fun.
Amai Diako is seen here interviewing Linke van Zyl en Liela Beukes prior to there hockey match. When she asked what they are most excited about, they said to participate and compete. I was expecting something more aggressive and I got somebody looking forward to everything a sports day of the this scale is all about: coming together and having fun.
The Grannies, mothers and fathers came to watch and I guess conversations revolved around: "In my day players could not turn around the ball or shield it with their bodies." Covid had its effect on supporters. These days they are supportive and not demeaning. Nobody shouts and complains out loud that the child should not play in this or that team. It is terrible to think there was a time not that long ago that children became the object of parents misplaced ambitions. But, yesterday the Paarl Girls High School community celebrated participation, well-played moves, grit and determination.
Wat sou interskole nou wees sonder ons broerskool wat ons kon ondersteun...Hoewel dit uit hierdie foto blyk dat daar meer drukkende sake is om aan aandag te gee.
